With what is happening in world travel now, it is important for this Grandma to introduce those of you who are unaware to MEDJET. PopPop and I have always had MEDJET memberships, and have not traveled abroad without it.  Fortunately, we have never had to take advantage of the benefits of this membership.

FIRST STEP (THE SMART TRAVELER ENROLLMENT PROGRAM)

I have already written a blog post about the U.S. government’s STEP program (The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program), another must do before travel abroad, which we have had the benefits of in the past.  The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) is a free service from the U.S. government that allows U.S. citizens traveling or living abroad to enroll with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.  Benefits of enrolling in STEP are: (1) receive the latest safety and security information for your destination country, helping you make informed decisions about your travel plans; (2) help the U.S. Embassy contact you in an emergency, whether natural disaster, civil unrest, or family emergency; and (3) help family and friends get in touch with you in an emergency.

WHAT IS MEDJET

MEDJET provides Global Medical Transport, Travel Security and Crisis Response Memberships.

I would definitely inquire as to what Medjet could or would do if one got injured in Israel during the war as Medjet says:

“Medjet Membership is the premier global air medical transport and travel security membership program for travelers. One in 30 trips end in a medical emergency, and safety while traveling has become a growing concern. Enroll prior to travel. Protect yourself with Medjet. Insurance gets you to the "nearest acceptable facility". Medjet membership can get you home.”

“10 million+ Travelers are hospitalized abroad each year. Millions more while traveling domestically.”

“2 million+ Travelers each year require medical transport. Ranging from $30,000 to $180,000 in costs that their health insurance, travel insurance and platinum card benefits may not cover.”

“3 out of 4 Travelers are now concerned about safety. Even in countries they used to consider “safe.”

TWO MEMBERSHIP OPTIONS

(all prices as quoted on MedJet website June 1, 2025)

MEDJET ASSIST

“As a MedjetAssist Member, if you become hospitalized internationally or domestically - 150 miles or more from home - Medjet will arrange medical transportation to a home-country hospital of your choice for inpatient care. All you pay is your membership fee. Short term memberships are as low as $99.  Annual memberships are as low as $315.”

MEDJET HORIZON

“MedjetHorizon includes all the medical benefits of a MedjetAssist Membership, plus worldwide travel security, crisis response and evacuation services powered by FocusPoint International. Terrorism, kidnapping, natural disaster, violent crime and other safety concerns are sadly a growing reality for today’s traveler. Travel safer, and travel protected, with a MedjetHorizon membership. . . .And unlike other global transport and travel security membership programs, MedjetHorizon does not depend on hard triggers, like government-issued evacuation mandates, to act on behalf of our members. It's the most comprehensive Medjet travel protection membership for travelers. Short-Term Memberships start at $ 189. Annual Memberships start at $ 474.”

Even with MedJet, where air travel is shut down as in Israel and other parts of the Middle East in a war, I do not know how the benefits come about. Member benefits are available only for international destinations but may be limited in countries where U.S. Department of State travel restrictions apply. I do not know if Israeli travel was limited before the war. It is during the war.  Membership is nonrefundable and nontransferable.

You can compare the options on the website.

Now, MEDJET has added coverage for age 85+, knowing that we Boomers will travel as long as we are able, with old, old, potentially beginning at age 90, if you listen to Warren Buffet.  See, blog post, How Do You Know the Day That You Become Old?

Diamond Memberships have a few additional rules and restrictions.  Medjet’s Diamond membership was specially designed for travelers age 75 – 84 and has a few additional rules and regulations. It requires an application (medical statement form, plus a brief questionnaire your doctor signs off on), every year, and may not be purchased online. This membership level is available in both MedjetAssist and MedjetHorizon options. Limited to one medical transport per membership year.

For example:

INDIVIDUAL DIAMOND MEMBERSHIP $450.00

PLATINUM ANNUAL: Ages 85+

Please note Platinum membership is exclusive to AARP members and is for international travel up to 90 days only.

Individuals who are 85+ are only eligible to enroll for 1 year of membership at a time, and they are required to complete the Platinum Application  (medical statement form, plus a brief questionnaire your doctor signs off on), every year, may not be purchased online and a few additional rules and regulations apply.  If a Medjet Platinum Member is hospitalized as an inpatient internationally and more than 150 miles from their Residence Address, and requires continued inpatient hospitalized care, Medjet will transport the member from the initial hospital to a hospital of their choice within their home country. It is up to the member to get to the initial hospital and any fees incurred in either of the hospitals are the responsibility of the member.  Medjet is not travel insurance.

For example:

INDIVIDUAL PLATINUM MEMBERSHIP $739.00

No, I am not an employee or sales representative.  Just a long term repeat MedJet member wanting to share important information as the world around us becomes more dangerous, but we Boomers especially still want to see the world while we are able and have our family members protected when they do, with
