Three Fresh Ideas to Revamp Your New Year’s Resolutions for 2025

Every year, I challenge myself to bring something fresh to my New Year’s resolutions. Normally, I pass down a life lesson to my grandchildren through a story from the past. But this year, I'm focusing on the present, offering ideas to shape a brighter, more exciting future!

This blog began many years ago, shortly after I became a new grandmother. A dear friend asked me to share everything I was learning about grandparenting, and here we are today—over 900 blog posts later! As I updated the site, I reflected on my grandparenting journey, and I’ve worked hard to make navigating the blog easier so readers like you can enjoy and share the stories, tips, and memories I've collected over the years.

Put "New" into Your 2025 Resolutions

Let’s make 2025 the year we embrace "new." This blog is filled with vibrant ideas to enrich your life as a parent or grandparent. From experiences to travel, gifts, and new rituals and traditions, I'm here to help you create unforgettable memories with your family. The first “new” for your resolutions? Find your passion. Over the years, I’ve explored so many activities with my six grandchildren, ranging from age six to twenty-one. Let this blog inspire you to find your own passion and create your unique family memories in 2025!

Don’t Let These Benefits Slip Away!

As I reflected on what to write for this New Year’s blog post, I had just come from hand therapy, which sparked a powerful idea for your 2025 resolutions. It’s about listening to your body and strengthening it while you’re still in the "young old" phase of life (a term my beloved mother-in-law, Lee, taught me). According to Lee, once we hit eighty-four, we enter the “old old” phase, and that's when things start to change. So, now begin to ensure your body remains strong and capable for years to come.

Take me, for example. A few months ago, I noticed pain and weakness in my left thumb, which was making everyday tasks like opening bottles a struggle. At first, people around me thought it wasn’t worth seeing a doctor, but I knew better. Thanks to Lee’s wisdom, I believe in taking action early to maintain my health. Now, after four sessions of hand therapy, my thumb is stronger, pain-free, and my whole hand works better. I’ve learned valuable techniques to keep it that way—and it’s covered by Medicare!

As we embrace the "young old" years, let’s focus on prevention. Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and even hand therapy can help keep our bodies functioning at their best, allowing us to enjoy life to its fullest—all covered by Medicare . So, make it a resolution to prioritize your health and take care of those little aches and pains before they turn into big problems!

Upgrade Your Ride for Safety & Comfort

The third “new” idea for your resolutions comes from a conversation with my hand therapist. She mentioned two new patients—both Boomers who had broken their wrists in car accidents. I asked if they were driving older cars, and sure enough, they were. An idea for 2025 is maybe it’s time we stop hanging on to our old cars and consider upgrading to something safer.

I’ve learned this firsthand—my brand-new car saved my life in a Florida rainstorm. When traffic stopped suddenly, my car took control and stopped just inches from a collision. The safety technology in new cars can truly make a difference, and with New Year’s deals around the corner, now is the perfect time to upgrade. Many new cars come with five years of maintenance included, so you can drive worry-free.

Final Thoughts for 2025: Make It New!

So, as you plan your New Year’s resolutions, consider making 2025 the year you leave behind the old and embrace the new. Whether it's adopting healthier habits, upgrading your car, or finding new adventures with your grandchildren, let’s make this year one of growth, joy, and vitality!

After all, we want to be able to get on the floor with our grandchildren and enjoy life to the fullest. We want to experience all that life has to offer, with our health, safety, and happiness leading the way.

Here’s to living with vitality and joy in 2025—and beyond!

Happy New Year!

Joy,

Mema
